New Lebanon, situated in the northeast corner of Columbia County, comprises 36 square miles. Its eastern town line borders Berkshire County, Mass. Formed from the town of Canaan in 1818, New Lebanon was formerly the home of the Mount Lebanon Shaker Society. Situated 24 miles southeast of Albany, New Lebanon comprises the smaller hamlets of Lebanon Springs, New Britain, New Lebanon Center, West Lebanon and New Lebanon. It is also home to a residential spiritual community and conference center known as The Abode of the Message, The Theater Barn, a nonprofit summer stock theater, Hand Hollow Conservation Area, a heritage center and Tannery Pond Concerts, among a wealth of other popular attractions.
