Located in central Columbia County, the town of Ghent is situated southeast of the city of Hudson and comprises several smaller hamlets and communities, including Arnolds Mill, Buckleyville, a portion of the village of Chatham, the hamlet of Ghent, West Ghent, Omi and Pulvers. Historically, Ghent, named for a Belgian city, was founded in 1818 from portions of the Chatham, Kinderhook and Claverack. It was originally inhabited by indigenous cultures before early settlers moved into the area around 1735. The Taconic State Parkway traverses the community’s southeast corner, and Ghent is home to Columbia County Airport, situated in the southwest portion of town.
