Christine Bates’s career in international banking, finance, and marketing, a graduate degree in art history, and an MBA from Columbia University proved great preparation for becoming a real estate agent. She is regarded as the region’s most insightful real estate journalist and began analyzing and writing about real estate issues when her family moved from Greenwich Village to the Village of Millerton. She is an active real estate investor and has gutted, redesigned, and renovated commercial and residential properties in Connecticut and New York. Her clients value her energy, problem-solving, and experienced business advice throughout the process of buying or selling a property. They also appreciate her integrity, absolute confidentiality, responsiveness, and negotiation skills. She listens to her clients and always tries to make buying or selling a home enjoyable whether as a second or full-time home.

Over the years Christine has developed an understanding and appreciation of the “personalities” of towns, hamlets, and villages in Litchfield and Dutchess Counties through active involvement in civic life. She served on the Board of Directors of the North East Community Center for nine years, including three as chair, was elected to the Board of Trustees in the Village of Millerton three times, and continues to write for the Lakeville Journal and Main Street Magazine on topics from zoning to renovations to market dynamics. Christine delights in her new life in this beautiful corner of New England and is proud to be associated with William Pitt Sotheby’s, the premier real estate agency in Litchfield County.  When she’s not writing or showing houses you can find her in the garden, exploring back roads, or feeding friends and family.

Testimonials

Our broker, Christine Bates was very thorough and attentive to every detail that occurred during the sale period. There were many issues with the property which she took on without us having to ask. She even investigated the septic system and whether or not there were underground tanks on the property prior to the closing. We would recommend Christine without hesitation.

Christine's strengths aren't just limited to her refreshing demeanor -- she's as personable and neighborly as well as professional and practical; its her clear knowledge of the marketplace. Analyzing the trends in northern Dutchess County, she suggested we actually _raise_ our asking price....and so we did...and we got it! This is a woman who knows her stuff and clearly has the interests of her client in mind.

Christine handled the entire process from compiling just the right comps, to discussing recommendations for us to consider regarding the older building we wanted to purchase and then lining up people in the trades to give us even more information. We felt confident in our below asking price offer which was eventually accepted. She then kept tabs on the closing document trail and working with three attorneys in this case to get us across the finish line and to a successful closing. It was a pleasure working with her on what could have been a stressful frustrating process but she helped keep it smooth and moving forward. It was a pleasure working with her.

In 2021, at the height of the most volatile covid-driven market conditions, Christine ensured we had all the critical data we needed at exactly the right time to make the best decision for our family. She knows the countryside, the houses, and what makes each village unique throughout the beautiful Tri-state area. Not only did we never feel pressured to do something we might regret, we felt Christine had our back every step of the way. We had heard from friends in the region that she pulled victory from the jaws of defeat in ensuring they closed on exactly the right house for them. Even more impressive in my view is her track record in ensuring her clients NEVER close on the wrong house for them. That has been true in our ongoing work with her and it has made us enthusiastic and loyal clients!
