A native of the Litchfield Hills with deep roots in Kent, Steve Pener pairs local insight with a calm, highly prepared approach to real estate. Earlier in his career, Steve spent many years partnering with leading Litchfield County agent Ira Goldspiel as a member of The Goldspiel Team, experience that honed his standards for service, negotiation, and luxury and country property sales.

Steve’s expertise is grounded in a real working understanding of how homes and land actually function. He has been involved in numerous renovation projects—from kitchen and bath remodels to full-scale transformations—giving him a sharp eye for quality, potential, and risk. His background in land surveying and his service on the Town of Kent’s Planning & Zoning Commission give him uncommon fluency in land development and local land-use policy, a major advantage in a region where topography, zoning, and conservation overlay every deal.

Before real estate, Steve worked in publishing, where he developed skills in advertising, marketing, writing, and design. Today, he uses that marketing toolkit to position each listing thoughtfully: clarifying the story of the property, elevating its presentation, and ensuring it reaches the right buyers across digital and print channels.

Steve ranked #1 in Unit Sales for William Pitt Sotheby’s Kent office in 2022 and was previously recognized among the Top 15 agents company-wide, across Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. He has also facilitated several of the largest recent land sales in Litchfield County, including the sale of a 248-acre parcel to the Warren Land Trust—highlighting his ability to navigate complex, high-impact transactions involving conservation priorities, stakeholders, and nuanced due diligence.

Beyond his work with clients, Steve serves as Executive Director of Pond Mountain Natural Area, an almost 800-acre protected landscape in Kent. He and his wife are raising their son and daughter in town, and when he’s not in the field with clients, he’s often on a bike, exploring local backroads, or coaching youth sports.
