This extraordinary house, designed and built by the architect/owner in 1995 was strongly influenced by the International movement born earlier in the 20th century. Functionalism, lack of decorative ornamentation, extensive use of glass, and simple lines are all evident. Sleek kitchen and baths, equipped with the finest fixtures. The design also was inspired by its sylvan setting. The dwelling is built on a ledge overlooking vibrant Mill Brook, stone outcroppings and lightly wooded grounds.

The original house has been expanded and updated over the decades, but always mindful of the integrity of the original.

Main level. The living room with a fireplace has a wall of glass and doors to a terrace overlooking the brook. The galley kitchen is superbly equipped and has a bar sink that opens to the living room. There is also a library, TV room and 2 full baths on this level. Either of these rooms could be additional bedrooms. A "bridge" from the living room leads to a brilliant dining pavillion built over the garage that was added in 1999. The pavillion has a large fireplace and provides enough warmth that the room is usable 6-8 months a year.

The master suite is on the upper level. The master bath was cleverly designed with a center shower. On each side of the shower is a toilet and vanity sink.

On the lower level is a studio/office with built-in bookcases and sliding glass doors to a another terrace. A guest addition was added in 2004. It has a full bath large windows, high ceiling and a skylight. Lying on the bed the sensation is evocative of being in a tree house. A metal staircase provides access to a covered deck that overlooks the brook.

Cornwall, one of Litchfield County's most scenic towns, is famed for its iconic red wooden bridge that spans the Housatonic River. It is home to Mohawk Mountain Ski Area and residents have access to Cream Hill Pond.
